Superb sounds!!

Recently, it has been the A30s and the I15s off Robson Bight and before that the A5 and I31 groups. After mixing it up socially for most of the day, the whales have sorted themselves out into their previous groupings. It has been such a pleasure to listen to them. It was a fabulous day starting off as it did this morning with the A25/23s along with the I35/68s wandering all the way to Haddington Island near Alert Bay and then shifting over to Mitchell Bay as the I15s and A30s returned via Queen Charlotte Strait. Everyone ended up in the Strait and headed to Cracroft Point. After delighting everyone with their vocals they eventually took the tide to travel north through Blackney. But they soon changed their minds and back tracked slowly south through Blackney once again. This time they continued toward the Bight. Must say there was a lot of foraging going on which is a great sign.

Superb sounds!!

We just had the A23s/25s, A30s, I15s and I31s come through Blackney Pass infront of the lab. We have great audio on the hydrophones! The orcas are now approaching Cracroft Point. You can watch at http://explore.org/live-cams/player/orcalab-cracroft-point-surface

Multiple pod calls audible.

The orcas (A5s, A30s, I15s and I31 group) are very chatty! They are near the entrance of Blackney Pass. Look like fishing is going on there. Watch them on explore http://explore.org/live-cams/player/orcalab-cracroft-point-surface

Orcas near mics.

The whales (though we cannot be sure it's the same group) have just passed silently through Blackney Pass, and can now be heard with some very tuneful 'ping' vocalizations near Parson Island.
