Superb sounds!!

They have started to come through Blackney Pass, others in Blackfish Sound.

No calls but orcas nearby

Not entirely sure what is happening so far. We had been listening to a lot of A5 calls in Blackfish Sound and a couple of calls echoed to Local left but then it went silent. Kate had reported that four groups passed Bere Point earlier, the last at 9pm so we are anticipating a busy night.

Superb sounds!!

Wonderful calls from the orcas arriving in Blackfish Sound. Some of the A5s are first, hopefully others yet to come. Boat noise is now intruding too.

We've just started hearing distant calls on the Flower Island hydrophone!

No orcas present.

Another foggy morning. We could briefly see the other side but it has closed in again. We lost track of the A30s in Blackfish Sound around 11:30pm and the A5s before that.

The A23/25/30's are at Weynton Island at the entrance to Weyton passage. The tide is with them so they might come back around to Blackney Pass??

The orcas are continuing to the west, spread out mid Strait off Big Bay and angling towards Blinkhorn.

We are still hearing distant calls from the A23/25/30's as they head West in the Johnstone Strait. They are currently approaching big bay on Hanson Island spread out.

Again Marie let us know that the whales turned at 4:03pm and headed toward the Western Boundary of the Reserve. From there they began to angle to the Sophia islands.

Time for a summary of the day. The A23s and A25s went west this morning ahead of the A30s (remember their rub?). Both groups got as far as Beaver Cove and Telegraph Cove before crossing toward a(and some into ) Weynton Pass. The Lukwa let us know the A30s even got as far as the Plumpers while others were still spread out back to Vancouver Island before they turned at 12:15pm. This put the A5s ahead of the A30s going back along Vancouver Island. CP let us know when they had reached Kaikash Creek and Marie on the Cliff informed us that the A30s are now opposite the Sophias and the A5s are kicking it up in the Bight.

At least some of the orcas have turned back to the east, after reaching Beaver Cove.

The A1 calls are closer to the east end of the Reserve so perhaps the A30s are following the A5s to the west.
