We just had a very nice encounter with a close passing Humpback which we have managed to ID as Quartz who swam passed Kurts point heading north into Blackfish Sound. Very cool!

No orcas present.

As far as we know it was a quiet night. But it is a lovely morning and the humpbacks and the rest of the ocean critters are busy going about their business as usual.

No calls but orcas nearby

Alex Morton reported seeing Orca heading North pass Donegal Head around 9am this morning, so looks like they are headed towards the Queen Charlotte Strait.

We are beginning to wonder if the A34s (and A46) went through Weynton Pass on the slack tide. But we are still waiting to hear calls back in Blackfish Sound to confirm this. So stand by!

Superb sounds!!

We were just woken up by some beautiful A1 (A34s) calls! Seems the guys from last night have turned around and are headed back towards the west past Critical Point! Exciting to start to the day!

The first part of the A34s (plus A46) went east past the beaches but the following group went in for a fairly lengthy rub. Could barely see in the fading light but still possible to make out their shapes, bubbles etc.

We think the A34s are passing Robson Bight now. A46 is with them and they passed OrcaLab in three groupings headed for the Strait earlier. We are waiting now to see if they go into the beaches.

Distant calls audible.

We have heard a couple of calls! Great news from Kate but trying to sort out the report from Hermann and Janie at Cetacealab. Hermann later reported that they could not confirm the A34s and A46 so that might be a clue. Anyway great excitement here, cameras ready and we are recording!

Lots of humpbacks keeping us busy. Meanwhile,Cetacealab just reported the following!: "we just got a report from Nicole and Bunker who are with the A34s and A35s in Camaano Sound. They confirmed that A46 is there, most likely with the A34s and Springer and her calf are there too..... Thought you would enjoy this update!!!!!"

No orcas present.

This morning, around 8:20am, Debs and Isabelle saw a humpback mid channel off Swanson Island heading south with a group of too attentive dolphins. The humpback huffed and puffed and trumpeted but the dolphins stayed close.

Oh dear troubles! We are experiencing Internet problems today. We will keep everyone posted when we are back. This morning a humpback at 10:05 began to "sing" off Robson Bight - early for song!

Tonight, an hour ago Jared Towers located the T90s and T87 approaching Bold Head after they had travelled through Blackney Pass. Before this they had been reported to Jared from a prawn fisher. The whales were headed to CP from the Sophias in Johnstone Strait around 5pm. These same whales had been seen by the Lukwa yesterday afternoon when off the entrance to Knights inlet.

We have further news. The C6s continued west through Queen Charlotte Strait ahead of the C10s who were seen in the afternoon off Bere Point by Darryl. The C10s also continued west. Quite the tour!

No orcas present.

Good news, some of the mystery has been solved by Jared Towers who found the C6s off Pultenay Point a short while ago. Hopefully, the Cs will encourage others to come down to the area soon. So interesting that the Mackays ran into the C10s yesterday morning and that the C6s made it this far.

It looks likely that the Cs headed back west early this morning. Between 6:15 and 6:45am, Jim Borrowman reported several orcas, including adult males, passing Telegraph Cove, westbound. Then at about 10am, Donna Mackay reported orcas heading west past Port McNeill. At about 8:30am Alex Morton heard A clan orcas on the Bold Head hydrophone but didn't see anyone. She thought they may have been on the north side of Malcolm Island, i.e. in Queen Charlotte Strait. What happened is an ongoing mystery but it's great to have resident orcas back!
