Multiple pod calls audible.

Busy night again! We think the A23/25s and G01 group headed east from Robson Bight. We could see them passing the Bight before the light faded. At least the A30s and I15s came to Blackney Pass and headed slowly to the south. We started hear blows around 9:10pm until 10:23pm. It was very difficult to keep track of the blows because of the boat traffic. We think they all headed east in Johnestone Strait. They are quiet now.

Multiple pod calls audible.

It's been another orca-filled day here at the Lab. At 2:59pm the A30s, followed by the I15s, slowly made their way into Blackney Pass. They travelled through the Pass, foraging and socialising for about an hour, when they cleared our view at 4:02pm and continued to the west. During this time, we also had some A5 and G01 calls on our Cracroft Point and Parson Island hydrophones. They milled around the entrance to Blackney Pass, just out of our view, before turning to the west in Johnstone Strait. The A5 and G01s have stayed vocal in the Strait around the south side of Hanson Island. Once again, at 7:30pm, they were angling towards Blackney Pass, but ultimately did not come through. Instead, they hugged the shore at Cracroft Point, very close to our CP platform, and have now continued east in the Johnstone Strait, moving to the Vancouver Island shore. We received a report at 6:22pm of at least 8 orcas (with no large males) heading west, just off Bere Point. At 7:04pm and 7:55pm we heard faint I15 and A30 calls, respectively, in Blackfish Sound. We are now waiting to see where they go, as the evening draws on...

Distant calls audible.

Things are getting busy! The I15s continued to travel west this morning and took Weynton in Blackfish Sound. They were sighted near Double Bay, aiming for Blackney Pass at 11:33am. They made a turn and went back to the Strait and at 12:33pm we received a report that they were just west of Blinkhorn Peninsula. Meanwhile the A30s were foraging in the reserve. Eventually they began to travel west and we are now hearing both A30 and I15 calls on the Cracroft Point hydrophone. While this was occurring, the A23s/25s and G01 groups were travelling west and were sighted at Naka Creek on the Vancouver Island side of the Strait at 12:32pm. They passed the main rubbing beach at 1:12pm and our now rubbing at Strider beach. We anticipate their next movements...

No orcas present.

It's been a quiet morning here, at least relative to recent days. The distant calls heard earlier (around 7.27am) belonged to the I15 group, 2-3 members of which were seen off Cracroft Point at 8am - this appeared to be the I4s, as I76 was ID'd. The small group continued west, out of sight and earshot. We have not heard any other calls this morning.
