Distant calls audible. We started hearing the A30 calls in Blackfish Sound. Seems like they took Weynton Pass. We received a report that a group of 8-10 orcas headed into Beaver Cove at 7:37pm and left the cove at 8:24pm. Momoko & Karien 22 Aug 2017 22:31:44 PDT Distant calls audible. They are back! Sounds like the A30s entered Johnstone Strait via Weynton. We started hearing them around 8:15pm. Momoko & Karien & Dylan 22 Aug 2017 21:21:33 PDT No orcas present. About one hour there was a large group of orcas spotted near the Mastermann Islands. No information about the direction that they were going.  Karien and Momoko  22 Aug 2017 19:23:45 PDT No orcas present. The A30s were milling and foraging off of CP for several hours. At 3:24pm they all grouped up and began to travel in a northly direction into Blackney Pass. We watched on our cameras, and at 4:04pm the A30s came into view. They moved somewhat quickly against the flooding tide and cleared into Blackfish Sound at 4:41pm. They were silent the entire time. We currently have no calls but we are sharing the company of several humpbacks in front of the lab. It is shaping up to be a beautiful evening! Dylan and Hanna 22 Aug 2017 17:58:10 PDT Orcas near mics. We are watching the A30s mill about the entrance to Blackney Pass and off Cracroft Point with a group of dolphins. Earlier the A30s travelled west along the Vancouver Island side until Kaiaks where they crossed over to Cracroft side. They have been here for quite a while just going back and forth. there is a humpback making a few sounds as well in the Blackney /Blackfish area. OrcaLab 22 Aug 2017 13:55:00 PDT Orcas near mics. Such a foggy morning but we can hear (lovely calls) the A30s once more near Robson Bight. Also a report from Queen Charlotte Strait of ten or so orcas slowly heading west from Bere Point.
