Distant calls audible.
As was anticipated, moments after our last update Orca's entered Blackney Passage from the South. We heard A30, I15 & 131 calls, and visually confirmed some of the A30's and I15's. They passed by swiftly, with the first group entering Blackney at 7:15pm and the last group clearing by 7:45pm. Distant calls are still audible on our Flower Island hydrophone.

No calls but orcas nearby
After our earlier update of the A30's, and I15's passing through Blackney Passage heading North, we recieved a report at 12:50pm that they were slowly continuing down Weynton Passage. Upon exiting the Passage, they turned East into Johnstone Strait and remained close to Hanson Island, hugging the shoreline. Around 4:00pm we heard possible calls on our Cracroft Point hydrophone, and shortly after we were able to locate the Orca's on the Cracroft Point camera, mid-strait, in front of East Blackney Passage. The next time we spotted them they were in the Gap near Gab's Rock pointed North and fighting the current. Eventually they were pushed back South out of our view from the lab, but we were able to find them again on the Parson Island Rock camera. They then turned east into Johnstone Strait around 5:00pm where we have been watching them from our Parson Island and Cracroft Point cameras. Our latest report, received just moments ago, was that the Orca's may be headed back in our direction. There are very infrequent calls at present, but we have our eyes peeled on the Gap awaiting their possible arrival!

Distant calls audible.
Orcas came through Blackney Pass to the north. We started hearing them at 5:11am. The calls were faint and sporadic all the time. At 6:57am, we found them on Cracroft Point camera. They were between Sophia Islands and Cracroft Point, closer to Cracroft Island side. The orcas slowly headed to the west to the entrance of Blackney Pass. While they spent time at the entrance of Blackney, two cruise ships and Alaska Ferry passed them. They slowly made their way to Blackney and came into our view at 8:28am. We visually identified the I15s and A30s. We heard the I31 calls at 8:16am on our Parson Island hydrohpon. The I15s came through first, followed by the A30s. The I16 with a juvenile and I128 were the closest to the lab. They all went out of view around 9am. Their calls are getting more faint in Blackfish Sound. We are hearing occasional humpback whale sounds in Blackfish as well.

No orcas present.
There hasn't been a ton of action in the late night so far. The A30s, I15s and I31s remained audible on the Cracroft Point hydrophone shortly after they entered the strait from Blackney Pass at 9:57pm. Their calls began to echo to the Critical point hydrophone and started to get fainter. We thought perhaps they would take the ebbing tide to the west as they went quiet shortly after midnight. Just after 1:00am, we could hear all three groups again, getting louder on the Critical Point hydrophone. At 1:42 am we could hear close echo location calls followed by a few pings and trills from the G clan groups inside Robson Bight. The last calls were heard at at 1:57am. We think all groups have gone to the east, past the reserve. We will see what morning brings!
