No calls but orcas nearby This has been a lovely day. After all the whales came back to Johnstone Strait this morning, the G01s and A5s headed for the Bight while the A30s and the I15s went off to the west. The i15s and the A30s returned to Blackney pass and headed north. Then this evening word came that they were on their way toward Burnt Point. We waited patiently and were eventually rewarded by a lovely slow pass by. Both groups were close together, floating, rolling, slapping, breathing. The ocean was calm and quiet. They headed toward Cracroft Point. Marie reported that the others had turned west with a few making a quick rub at the beaches. The A30s stalled off Cracroft Point and even made a try for Blackney once again but decided to return to the Strait where the A5s were quite vocal near Robson Bight. What a day! Sun is out and the whales are in! Starting at 10:55am the G03s and G46s and some of the A5s came into Blackney Pass and moved quickly south. They were followed by a wave of groups including the I15s and A30s next (the A30s were closer to our side). Next came more A5s (including Fife and Surge). They were followed by the G16s and G31s in all one group. Everyone was moving fast and very vocal. Once out of the Pass the A30s and I15s went west while the G03s, G46s, A5s, G16s and G31s headed east. They are off the Izumi area now. OrcaLab 17 Aug 2017 14:10:24 PDT Distant calls audible. This morning in Queen Charlotte Strait around 8am Troy reported a group of about 15 orcas between Bere Point and Bowlder Point milling.
