No orcas present.

An overcast day here at the lab but the ocean is calm. There were some Biggs in Johnstone Strait a couple days ago and were observed making a kill. Not a sound on the hydrophones though. If you haven't watched the video Rebecca shared please take a look. Some of the most incredible orca footage I have ever seen!

Distant calls audible.

Ton of rain the past couple of days, but a reprieve at the moment. Heard a couple of very faint calls (sounded like Biggs, not sure of their location yet) a few minutes ago. We're waiting to see if they call again.

Its a cloudy morning here at the lab but the sun is trying its hardest to peek through. Hopefully we'll hear some orcas today!

No orcas present.

We sent along the recordings from a couple days ago to Paul and Helena, their first guess was C's, a pod I had never heard before! Very exciting. It's a quiet, blustery day here at the lab so far. The camera is on for awhile for anyone interested in taking a peak.

What the?!?!?! We just had three orcas fly through Blackney Pass on their way north. A couple calls on Flower Island. Still some calls on CP too.

Distant calls audible.

We're hearing very distant calls off of CP. We are thinking they're the same Biggs we heard earlier today off of Flower Island!

Although we haven't heard any calls recently, the lab has been lovely! The sea lions are still hauled out just down the way and the sun has been shining!

No orcas present.

Our streak of calm days finally came to an end. The pass is littered with white caps and the wind is howling here at the lab. Good day for drinking coffee and reading.

No orcas present.

Our stretch of calm weather continues here on Hanson Island. It's been a very mild and pretty start to the new year for us at the lab and hope it has been for all of you too.

The A42s were seen yesterday (the 8th) off Quadra Island headed east. Thanks to Miray and Luke for the report. Also Leslie saw 3 orcas off Port Hardy at around 3:30pm! Tanks for passing this report along Leslie.

No orcas present.

We're having another nice, calm morning here at the lab. The sea lions are still hauled out along the rocks and the Harlequin ducks are swimming in to say "hi" every morning. We just need orcas now!

No orcas present.

Although we haven't been hearing any calls lately, we've stayed plenty busy trying to keep warm through a little cold snap. It looks like it's behind us now, though. We hope everybody is enjoying the new year!
