No calls but orcas nearby

Jeff and crew on the Lukwa were able to positively ID A11 in QCS today. There were 3 others there as well, most likely A56 & A97. Springer had been traveling with this group at Cetacelab last week, so she may very well account for the 4th orca today! They all turned back to the west.

No calls but orcas nearby

Lukwa relayed orcas rubbing at Bere Pt. around 1030 this morning. Gordie originally reported 3 orcas in QCS a bit further to the east. Sounds as though we have some NR's around!! In the meantime a humpback is traveling north in Blackney Pass. The internet has been spotty since late last night and we are trying to get to the bottom of it. You may experience audio turning on and off.

Humpbacks: Nick & Stripe just headed south in Blackney Pass. Simultaneously, KC could be seen heading north in the pass. They all met up for one surfacing and were so close they must have been touching. Then they continued along their way in their original groupings and direction. KC has since turned to the south and they are now all out of view.

Good news from CetaceaLab. They saw Springer the other day travelling with the A11s. They thought she looked great and was even sporting a new nick at the base of her fin. Thank you! Janie and Hermann for this great report. They have also seen the A8s and some of the Rs so the orca season seems to be shaping up.

Two humpbacks in Blackney Pass this morning. Earlier Jackie reported that KC was definitely there and she wondered if the 2nd humpback might be Ariel who was KC's companion (and sibling) in Campbell River last week.
