No calls but orcas nearby

The drought is over! A pair or orcas, one male and one female just blitzed through Blackney pass going south. We caught a quick glimpse of them through the storm on the lab camera. http://explore.org/live-cams/player/orcalab-base

No orcas present.

Outside of a few brief notes from the humpbacks, all is still quiet around here. Still anxiously awaiting our first orca sighting of the fall.

No orcas present.

It's been quiet on the orca front sine we arrived. There's still a few humpbacks about but even they haven't been all that chatty. Perhaps today's the day that changes.

We have a singing humpback in Blackfish Sound - not too, too vocal yet but thinking about it on this very wet and stormy night!

No orcas present.

We had word this evening from Jared Towers that Simon Piddock took pictures of the I13s in Queen Charlotte Strait this afternoon. They were last seen heading west of Malcolm Point. Thanks to Simon and Jared.

No orcas present.

Well we finally stopped hearing distant calls and have come to believe the A34/46s must have headed out through Weynton. Hoping we are wrong! But we did not hear them come around to Blackfish Sound and the tide was ebbing as of 6:15pm.

Distant calls audible.

We have been listening to the A34/46s for the whole day now in Johnstone Strait. The calls have been very distant at all times. We thought that just before 2pm they might have turned. The calls remained very distant.lots of boat noise and a vert choppy sea have not helped.

The A34/46s are spread out mid strait foraging west of Cracroft Point at the moment.

Nice surprise! A34 calls in Johnstone Strait. Noisy boat noise as well as there is a fishing opening too.
