No orcas present.

It has been quite the day for the whales. After they briefly came to the top (west) end of Blackfish Sound this morning they retreated to Queen Charlotte Strait where the whale watch boats lost them in the descending fog. They had been headed towards the Penfolds. Later in the day, at 4:30pm Marie relayed that the Lukwa had identified the A30s, A23s, A25s and some of the I15s and that they had moved over to Lizard Point from the Polkinghorn Islets. They are pointing east once again. It is a beautiful, slightly breezy summer day here.

The whales are vacillating between choosing Weynton Passage and Blackfish Sound. Right now, it seems to be Blackfish. Jeff of Stubbs Island thinks there may be more whales than before so we are listening and waiting to see what might develop.

No orcas present.

The large group (the A23/25s, I31s,I15s and A30s) have spent the majority of the day in Queen Charlotte Strait after they went north through Blackney Pass at dawn. At 10am they were at Black Bluff, spread out , foraging and slowly westing. Then, got to Malcolm point and turned back east just before noon, then they made it almost to Lizard Point and turned towards Foster, sounds like they are headed for the Pilkinghorn islands now... Thanks to Marie for keeping track of the radio reports today.

Too bad the early sports fishermen arrived on scene to try their luck just as the A23s/25s, I35s, I15s and A30s were also moving through Blackney and now, into Blackfish Sound. The whales are still vocal as they continue west.

The A23/25s, I35s,I15s and A30s are all travelling north through Blackney Pass. They are incredibly vocal. We first heard them come back from east of the Reserve around 3am. Yesterday's incredible rub at the main beach is still imprinted on our minds (forever).!

The whales headed east from Cracroft Point earlier. We think they are still going east but difficult to find them in this misty weather.

It seems as if the groups have been sorting themselves out while in Blackfish Sound. They have been very vocal and a few even slipped into Blackney Pass for a while but not for long, for now. The A5s,I15s and A30s are all back in Blackfish Sound, at times, quite distant, at others a little clearer. We have not heard the I35s for a while.
