Mark counted around 180 sealions on the rocks just to our right. But there are lots of sealions in the water, too, so there must be at least 200 of them. We turned on the camera to show you the scenery!

Orcas near mics.

The humpback on Flower Island is singing now! Maybe it just wanted to wait until the storm is over, so that we can her its song properly! :)

Distant calls audible.

Some dolphins came into Johnstone Strait: they are pretty vocal on Critical Point's hydrophone. Still a lot of water movement on all stations, the wind is getting worse over here!

I can hear a vocal humpback ever and anon on Flower Island's hydrophone. Not singing, yet.

No orcas present.

For the record: yesterday at 1pm 3 orcas were seen near Port McNeill (report via Marie), possibly T10s as they were in the area (report from Naiad via Jackie).

No orcas present.

I could hear some few but distant humpback calls again on Flower Island - no singing, yet. Probably the one we heard 2 hours ago is still out there.

Boat noise

Even if the humpback was finally banished by heavy boat noise on Flower Island, it was one lovely hour of humpback song! I can hear some chatty dolphins now on Cracroft Point but the calls are faint and underneath boat noise. Still no sign of the orcas...

Superb sounds!!

After another quiet day on Hanson Island one of the humpbacks in this area decided to sing! We can hear his lovely calls on Flower Island's hydrophone.

Two humpbacks just passed the lab very close, maybe 5 meters off the decks! I could hear some goofy humpback calls on Local Left/ Flower Island but still not enough as to call it a song. However this was a nice wake up at OrcaLab!

Boat noise

Can hear distant calls underneath boat noise on Critical Point. I think it's still a group of the G-Clan.

Distant calls audible.

One distant/ midrange ping again! Could hear the call on Flower Island's hydrophone. Still not very vocal.

No calls but orcas nearby

About two hours ago the June Cove reported one male Orca foraging between Donegal and Bold Head but I could neither hear calls on our hydrophones nor see Orcas in Blackney Pass. A few minutes ago I heard one ping call again but now the Orcas became quiet again. Don't know, yet, on which hydrophone it was. Waiting for more calls...

No calls but orcas nearby

Around Noon the I33s cleared into Blackfish Sound after travelling north through Blackney Pass. The two males,I45 and I62 were together mid channel and passed I33 and I110 who had entered Blackney Pass first. I33 and I110 had a few foraging turns and moved closer to the Compton Island side before also leaving for Blackfish.
