No calls but orcas nearby
Well it has been quite the afternoon, and now the night. After hours of foraging off of the Cracroft Point area and the entrance to Blackney Pass all afternoon the whales made a push north for Blackney Pass just ahead of the slack tide. Bend was in the lead and the rest of the A30s followed in small groupings spread out across Blackney. The I15s did likewise with a final group (the I27s) eventually passing a bit closer to our side of mid channel. But the story was not yet done! We became aware of I31 calls still in Johnstone Strait and actually located this small group off of CP heading into Blackness very quickly. But they did not really come in very far, content to call out to the others, who began to wander back into Blackness from the north. Some may have never really left! Eventually, we heard the I31s back in Johnstone Strait while the others, the A30s and I15s, moved themselves through Blackney towards the entrance once again. What now? ... And just before dark, while we were sorting out the movement of the I31 group (the I68s) we watched on the Parson Island camera as the humpback "Lucky" bubble netted and made all the the appropriate sounds as well.

Distant calls audible.
The orcas passed through Blackney Pass to the south. They came into our view around 3:10pm. The I4s were ahead, followed by the A30s. At 3:43pm, we spotted orcas right next to Burnt Point. The rest of the I15s (possibly with I68s) came close to the lab and headed to the south. After they entered the strait, they started foraging near the entrance of Blackney Pass where we can see them on Cracroft Point cam. Watch them on explore! https://explore.org/livecams/orcas/orcalab-cracroft-point-surface

No orcas present.
An update from the night: The orcas that passed north through Blackney from around 6pm were confirmed acoustically as the A30s, I15s and I31s, who had all reconvened at CP as per our earlier report. The trailing group cleared the Pass (north) at 7:11pm. Increasingly distant calls from all parties could be heard in Blackfish sound until 9:07pm, and again - always very distant - at 10:30pm for an hour. The rest of the night and morning so far have been quiet.
