Superb sounds!!

We are hearing some lovely sounds on our Critical Point hydrophone from the A30s who have been fishing in Robson Bight for the past couple of hours. We last heard the A42s on our Cracroft Point hydrophone an hour ago, they have since gone quiet!

Boat noise

The A30s went east as far as rubbing beach. They had rub at main rubbing beach around 16:11, tuened back to the west. We strated hearing them on Critical Point hydrophone again about 20 mins ago, as they are making their way to the west. Meanwhile the A42s came into Johnstone Strait through Weynton Pass around 16:24. They are opposite Kaikash at 17:44, heading east.

Superb sounds!!

The A30s passed Blackney Pass to the south, close to the lab this afternoon. They cleared from our view at 1:25pm. They kept going to the east in Johnstone Strait. Megan at CP reported that they saw the A30s last at 2:30pm. They were heading towards Izumi. We started hearing them on the Critical Point hydrophone at 3:11pm. Sounds like they are in Robson Bight. The A42s were reported off Lizard Point on Malcolm Island, heading west at 12:13pm.

No calls but orcas nearby

We picked up calls on Parson Island this morning, and had a beautiful pass through Blackney by the A30s and A42s. Both groups have now cleared to the north into Blackfish Sound.

No calls but orcas nearby

The A30s followed by the A42s surprised us by becoming very vocal briefly on the Parson Island hydrophone as they turned north into Blackney Pass. They have just cleared into Blackfish Sound. Not very vocal once they were transiting Blackney and still quiet on reaching Blackfish. Lots of Alaskan fish boats heading home after their season in the north.
