Distant calls audible.

The A30s/A42s passed Rubbing Beach to the east around 9 pm. A66 passed the Rubbing Beach Underwater camera. 20 mins later we started hearing them on the Rubbing Beach hydrophone again. We think they turned to the west.

No calls but orcas nearby

The whales today have given us quite the treat! After coming in from the east beyond the Bight, we had the A30s and A42s hanging around in front of Cracroft Point from 1:30pm to about 5:30pm. They were gently moving from CP to the entrance of Blackney Pass and then back again. At 5:44pm the whales made a decision! They headed east, crossing over to the Vancouver Island side of Johnstone Strait. After a visit to Robson Bight for some dinner, they then all continued on east. We are now waiting and hoping for them to visit the main Rubbing Beach. The orcas haven't been our only visitors today- we also had a singing humpback whale near Parson Island at 6:07pm.

Distant calls audible.

Sounds like they are opposite the entrance of Blackney Pass. We are hearing them on Parson and CP hydrophone. Bill on "Naiad" reported that the A42s were off Kaikash Beach and the A30s were 1/2 mile back of them at 12:52 pm. They were all Vancouver Island side. Thanks for the report!

Distant calls audible.

We started hearing them on the CP hydrophone at 12:32pm. Look like they are approaching Kaikash Beach, Vancouver Island side.

The whales (A42s and A30s) continued east to the main rubbing beach (stopping for a quick visit into Strider beach) where they promptly turned around again and headed back east. The whales were mingling together and spread out between the Vancouver Island shore and the middle of Johnstone Strait. They aren't calling right now, but we hope to hear them again soon on our Critical Point hydrophone.

Superb sounds!!

We are hearing A42 and A30 calls on our Critical Point hydrophone. The whales haven't entered the Bight yet, but they are heading that way now.

No calls but orcas nearby

This morning Lauren woke up and heard blows around 4:20am. The blows were heading south in Blackney Pass but there were no helpful calls to aid identification. Just now, Ecological Reserve Warden Marie sees a group of orcas off Izumi Rock on the Vancouver Island shore. No direction at the moment as the whales are seemingly socializing. There are no calls at the moment.

after the A1 group (possibly the A30s) cleared into Blackfish sound, we heard 5 more blows came into Blackney Pass. They headed north. We think this might be the A42s but they were very quiet.
