Distant calls audible. a little while ago the A30s entered the Strait through Blackney Pass. and the A23s/A25s are back to the west , in the Bight. Tomoko 25 Aug 2015 23:10:11 PDT Superb sounds!! The A30s came south through Blackney Pass at about 10PM tonight and have made their way East to Critical Point Megan 25 Aug 2015 23:09:30 PDT Orcas near mics. Complicated day! Lots of movement from the whales. First to back track a little bit. As the I15s came back into Johnstone Strait they may have pulled the I35s (our GI group) with them. The I35s were seen early afternoon making a circuit around the Stephenson Islands before heading back into Johnstone Strait. meanwhile the A34s came into Blackney Pass around 12:25pm and went north into Blackfish Sound. A46 was in the lead for a while. They were followed by the A52s, A30s and A42s. While these groups war going north the A23s and A25s were seen by the Cliff heading east from Izumi. We soon picked up their calls and later the I15s and the I35s too who all made it to the Ecological Reserve. Eventually, the I15s went west and the I35s made it back to Robson Bight. The A23s and A25s may have continued east while the I15s went to the west. So there are a few loose ends but the A30s have seemed content to stay in Blackfish Sound for the last while. We were hearing the A30 calls on Flower Island hydrophone until 4:16pm. Probably they haven't gone far away. Momoko 25 Aug 2015 16:47:25 PDT Distant calls audible. The A30s, A42s and A52s (from A4 pod) headed north in Blackney Pass. They cleared from our view at 1:35pm. Now we are hearing the A5, I15 and possibly other G clan calls. The A30s,A5s and the A4 group did not venture far from the area off the entrance to Blackney Pass. meanwhile, the Cliff watched the A34s with A46 in front of them and the I15s took Weynton to come back into Johnstone Strait at which point the other groups grouped up and made a move for Blackney Pass, at least the A30s did. Helena 25 Aug 2015 12:17:54 PDT No calls but orcas nearby The group who was off Critical Point earlier this morning (5am) moved on past CP (7:30) to the west. They were followed by the A30s and A52s who came up to Critical Point and passed CP mid strait (9:45am). There may have been another group as well ahead of the A30s on the Vancouver Island side. Also Alex Morton reported a group heading east off Donegal Head a short while ago. This may be the I15s who went northwest around 3am. Helena  25 Aug 2015 10:18:49 PDT Multiple pod calls audible. The I15s have gone the way of the last cruise ship and have gone west into Blackfish Sound. boat noise everywhere I am afraid. Lots of humpback activity out in Blackney Pass tonight.
