Superb sounds!!

This evening has a ghostly feel, as we are in awe of a humpback whale, singing into the night on Flower Island. Sit back and enjoy this rare opportunity.

Superb sounds!!

We are having a wonderful day. The I15's, A30's and I33's are enjoying a good rub on the Rubbing Beaches. They are emitting some beautiful and excitable calls.

Distant calls audible.

The I15's, I33's and A30's have now travelled east to the Rubbing Beaches, after a fishy snack. Lets see what they decide to do next!

Superb sounds!!

Clear echolocation can be heard on Critical Point by the I15's, A30's and I33's. Lets hope the orca's have a hearty lunch. Enjoy listening!

Orcas near mics.

They must be nearing the Bight now.

Multiple pod calls audible.

An hour before the tide was to turn to ebb the whales decided to go with it and head east again. This was after some serious foraging off of the CP/entrance to Blackney Pass area.

Multiple pod calls audible.

The groups (the A30s,I15s and I33s) are making their way through the traffic toward the CP area. We had very lovely calls when the A30s were in the Bight earlier but then just horrible boat noise. At Noon the Naiad reported A38 was on the Vancouver Island side with the A50s and some of the I15s near Izumi Rock (just past the western boundary of the Reserve) and the Lukwa report that A39 was mid strait with other A30 members and somoe of the I15s as well. No visual yet on the I33s.

Orcas hunting fish.

We just started to hear distant calls in the Strait and then close echo location near Robson Bight. We have heard I31s,I15s and "As" (?A30s).

Distant calls audible.

We heard a few "A" calls about ten minutes ago but have not been able to source them.

No orcas present.

Lovely morning here and we had the rarity of a quiet night. We were not aware of any movement during the night after the humpback finished calling in Blackfish Sound at 8:50pm. The A30s went out of range just before this at 8:43pm. The humpback and the A30s were for a while matching each other by calling and quitting at the same time. Coincidence? For now, we believe yesterday's orca groups retreated to Queen Charlotte Strait last night unless they returned quietly while we slept.

We're hearing nice midrange calls of dolphins on the Flower Island hydrophone.

Orcas near mics.

Not orcas but Pacific white sided dolphins! We are hearing close dolphin calls. Souds like they are close to CP!
