We think the A30s and I15s did a short turn around and are now headed east agin toward the Bight. We thought the A34s came a bit further west to the entrance to Blackney but then we lost them. They have not come into Blackney so far. We were out listening to a humpback repeatedly breach across on the other side and did not hear any orca blows.Lots of question tonight as the whales sort themselves and we sort out our impressions! The A34s, A30s and I15s are travelling now toward the entrance to Blackney Pass. Will they come into Blackney Pass like they have the last two nights? We have not heard the A8s since this morning in the Strait and we were never certain what the A36s did today. There had been an early visual report of them in the Bight but this was during the foggy part of the day. Helena 04 Sep 2013 21:52:14 PDT |

We are being very patient! Only distant calls from the A30s,I15s and A34s after the whales returned to the Bight area about an hour ago. We believe they are making their way west on the ebb but it has been difficult with all the busy traffic tonight and only faint calls so far. Hopefully, they will continue toward CP and quieter conditions soon. Helena 04 Sep 2013 21:14:21 PDT |

Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom.
The A1s have moved on down the road to the rubbing beaches. Can the I15s be far behind? Helena 04 Sep 2013 19:19:24 PDT |

No calls but orcas nearby
The very large group of dolphins (estimated between 3 and 5 hundred) went off to the west toward Blinkhorn and have just turned back to the east. hard to hear their calls through the constant boat noise today but the Lukwa who reported their turn played calls over the VHF. Likewise, the Tuan played calls from the incoming group in Queen Charlotte Strait (didn't catch this until it was over :( ). The Naiad reports that the A30s and the I15s have joined mid strait and are headed to the Cliff opposite Robson Bight. Helena 04 Sep 2013 11:45:43 PDT |

Reports are now coming in with the whale watch boats out and about. The A36s are in the Bight now with others yet to be id'd. In the Strait just off CP are 300-400 dolphins and earlier Mark saw the A30s mid strait slowly going east and probably off the Sopia Island. Another large group was reported off Fife Inlet. These whales were pointing recently toward malcolm Island on the opposite shore. This may be a new group! Helena 04 Sep 2013 11:05:42 PDT |

The groups that came in this morning via Weynton Pass around 5:30am were still off Telegraph Cove at 6:30am. They are now filtering their way to the east along the Vancouver Island shore. They are very quiet but we can hear the dolphins. It is very foggy again but clearing in patches. a commercial fishery is working today so the Strait will be busy and noisy. So few openings these days we hope it goes well for everyone and the whales remember to be careful around the busy nets! Helena 04 Sep 2013 09:08:57 PDT |

A little while ago we started hearing the calls on Critical Point hydrophone. Sounds like the whales who left the strait last night are back now. We have heard I15s, A30s and A5 calls at least. Possibly A36s are there as well. Tomoko and Anna 04 Sep 2013 05:55:23 PDT |
