Multiple pod calls audible.

The frequency of the calls dropped off when the whales were well Blackney Pass. Now,as the last group cleared (they were in mixed groupings) there are a few calls every so often. The A8s,I15s and A30s are all through, we are waiting to be certain whether the A36s are there as well. There are dolphins in the Strait.

The groups have made their move toward the entrance to Blackney Pass and are just beginning to head north through Blackney.

Multiple pod calls audible.

The whales, the I15s,A30s,A8s and A36s, sound excited as they draw nearer and move through the Ecological Reserve.

Multiple pod calls audible.

We are trying to track the various groups acousticlly. The A36s were off the entrance to Blackney but they are on the move perhaps shifting into mid strait and pointing toward the Bight. At the same time, the A8s are getting more distant from as they move away. The I15s are still off the east end of the Reserve and the A30s may be not too far away. It will take a while before we understand completely what they are up to.

And now the I15s are coming up from the east following the A8s example. Their calls are off the east end of the Reserve.

Distant calls audible.

The fog has never really lifted all day! The A36s seemed to continue travelling toward the Bight but recently we can hear calls again on the far side of the Strait opposite the entrance to Blackney Pass. Around 3pm a small group of Biggs were seen near Kaikash Creek. Not sure what happened to them.

the A36s, who we believe were off the top end of Blackfish Sund a while ago are no back in Johnstone Strait and headed east from Blinkhorn.

Distant calls audible.

We are hearing distant A1 calls again (we heard a couple about an hour ago) on Flower Island. The rest of the whales are still heading east from Naka Creek.

No orcas present.

Not only is it foggy outside but we don't have have any clear idea what the whales did between 6 and 8am. After the whales came back into the Strait around 3am they went down toward the Bight and beyond to the rubbing beaches where they enjoyed a rub from 5 to 6am. Afterwards, the A30s, I15s and the A36s came back to Critical Point. They were still close to Critical Point just before 7am when their calls became quickly distant in the horrible boat noise but they never seem to make it up to the CP area acoustically. We will either have to rely on other reports to clarify the situation or hope the whales start calling again.

Multiple pod calls audible.

This sure sounds better without the boat noise! Sound like the A36s probably came in with the others.

Multiple pod calls audible.

They are back and in the Strait again!. Just around 3am Momoko started to hear calls again, so far, there have been I15s,A30s. We are still waiting on the A8s and possibly the A36s (who had been possibly heard just before midnight in Blackfish after the others cleared to the west.
