Distant calls audible.

We believe the whales who were in Backfish Sound came back into Johnstone Strait and headed east . We are now hearing calls off the entrance to Blackney Pass.

Superb sounds!!

We have been listening to a lovely mix of calls from the A30s,I15s and I33s in Blackfish Sound. We did hear I15s in the Strait as well until 5:41pm. Perhaps they slipped back out Weynton to join these others.

Distant calls audible.

This afternoon has been epic for orca sightings. The A30's, I15's and 133's travelled north up Blackneye Pass into Blackfish Sound. The 115's have now headed east along Johnstone Strait and they can be heard on Critical Point. However, we cannot detect any A30 or I31 calls. Lets wait and see. Perhaps the orcas will pay OrcaLab another visit this evening.

Multiple pod calls audible.

Indeed the A30s led the I15s and I33s north through Blackney Pass to Blackfish Sound. Apparently, they had been foraging/milling off of CP when 200-300 dolphins joined them, splitting the group into two. Just after the orcas decided to come into Blackney Pass. Round and round they go!

Multiple pod calls audible.

The A30s,I15s and I133s got as far east as just past CP and then they turned again toward the entrance of Blackney Pass.

We can also hear the I33s and I15s with the A30s in Johnstone Strait heading east.

Distant calls audible.

At least the A30s are back in Johnstone Strait after circling around Hanson Island and entering via Weynton Pass.

No calls but orcas nearby

After a long gap in the calls we had the pleasant surprise of seeing the A30s come through Blackney Pass. A38, Blackney, followed A39 and the A50s and A54s. Blackney was followed by I4 and I77 and finally by the rest of the I15s along with the I33s. It was a lovely close pass. As the A30s went by we also had a group of 4 Biggs whales heading south close to Parson Island.

Superb sounds!!

Lovely G clan calls (I15 and I31) along with some echo location as the whales move back toward the west from the east end of the Reserve.

Distant calls audible.

We're hearing distant A clan calls on the rubbing beach hydrophone, probably from the A30s, and about half an hour ago heard distant G clan calls on the rubbing beach hydrophone. Seems likely the orcas are east of the Reserve now, though probably not far away. There is a lot of boat noise in the Strait at the moment, which doesn't help.

Orcas near mics.

The groups seem to be split up now: While the A30s are pretty vocal and close to Critical Point's hydrophone, the G-Clan group can be heard faint on the Rubbing Beach. We can listen to some echo location of the A30s, as well.

Distant calls audible.

The calls became more distant and some are echoey. The A30s decided to head back west - we can hear their calls distant on Critical Point as well as on the Rubbing Beach. The G-Clan calls are still on the Rubbing Beach hydrophone.

Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom.

Seems as if they all finally arrived at the Rubbing Beach to get a good rub! We have lots of close and beautiful calls on the Rubbing Beach hydrophone. And some nice echo location as well.

Distant calls audible.

Some of the G clan group is near the Bight and the A30s are with them. At least some of the I15s are at the east end of the Reserve.
