The whales have continued west and are now just coming up and into Blackney Pass. This is a change in pattern and the first time in Blackney for some time. interesting to see if the A8s come as well. Helena 02 Sep 2013 21:59:47 PDT |

Several things are happening at the moment. First of all the A36s who were east bound in Queen Charlotte Strait around 8:30am (Kate and Troy) were seen off of Donegal Head this evening. Meanwhile, the others are possibly on the move west again with the A8s somewhere between Izumi and Kaikash Creek a short while ago. Helena 02 Sep 2013 20:20:45 PDT |

As the resident orcas moved past the entrance of Blackney Pass the transients shifted back and forth by Parson Bay. Finally, when the residents were the loudest off the entrance they gave up on the idea of returning to Johnstone Strait and quickly exited to Blackfish Sound. The I15s,A30s, and possibly the A8s are moving in toward Robson Bight just where their day began almost 12 hours ago. Helena 02 Sep 2013 16:17:14 PDT |

It sounds like the groups have turned back to the east. The lead groups are off Big Bay already (Lukwa report) Meanwhile, a group of Biggs has entered Blackney Pass but still out of sight of the Lab. Helena 02 Sep 2013 14:10:06 PDT |

The orcas continued heading west past CP mid strait to the far shore of Vancouver Island. We can still just hear calls every so often. Helena 02 Sep 2013 11:55:25 PDT |

The whales (at least some) are moving back west. The A8s were first & just before 9am they were mid strait off the Cliff. Afterwards, after 9 they crossed between Izumi and the western boundary of the Reserve towards Vancouver Island. After some of the A30s went in for a rub (following the I15s there) they re-entered the Bight. The I15s are still closest to the beaches and even did another short rub. Generally though they may all be on a western roll. Helena 02 Sep 2013 09:14:10 PDT |

Sounded like the A30s were rubbing a short while ago! Helena & Tomoko 02 Sep 2013 08:57:28 PDT |

Orcas near mics.
Conditions have improved. The whales are still in the same general area. Marie can hear blows and see the I27s on the Cracroft Island side opposite Boat Bay. The whales are making a move now to the east and we can hear close echo location near Critical Point. Helena 02 Sep 2013 07:17:56 PDT |

Boat noise
Hats off to our gang for enduring the constant heavy boat noise while trying to locate distant orcas through the night. it takes endurance. Difficult to say this morning just where the whales are. We have not heard them cross the entrance to Blackney Pass in either direction but have heard I15s,A30s and A8s continue to be vocal. At one point they seemed to be stalled east of CP. The tide is ebbing so we will see after the boat noise clears. Helena & Barbara 02 Sep 2013 05:28:58 PDT |

The orcas are making there way back to the west, we're listening to them on the Critical Point hydrophone, along with some boat noise. Helena 02 Sep 2013 00:27:38 PDT |
