Orcas near mics. Our gang is approaching Robson Bight. Still lots of boat noise but the calls are coming through it clearly. Helena & Co 08 Sep 2012 22:06:53 PDT |
Distant calls audible. The A5s,A30s and the I15s at 7:30pm were travelling east, at least some close to Vancouver Island approaching Little Kaikash Creek area. They have continued to call despite the boat noise but heir calls have never seemed to get closer to Robson Bight - at least so far. Helena & Co 08 Sep 2012 21:24:51 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. Thanks to a heads up from Jim and Mary we started a recording just as the A30s, I15s and A5s (did they ever leave the Strait) started eastward from Weynton Passage. Helena & Co 08 Sep 2012 18:53:30 PDT |
Distant calls audible. After the A30s all finally cleared they were joined by at least the I15s at the top end of Blackfish Sound. The I15s must have taken Weynton Passage. Did they bring the A8s with them? Helena 08 Sep 2012 18:14:13 PDT |
Performing maintenance we will be shutting down CP power in a moment, hopefully back soon. Thanks for your patience. OL crew 08 Sep 2012 15:48:19 PDT |
Orcas near mics. The A30s just got going vocally. They are off Blackney Pass after moving back to the Strait via Weynton Pass. It now looks like they are headed back into Blackney Pass - a wonder they are not dizzy! Helena 08 Sep 2012 15:45:09 PDT |
Boat noise After the I15s arrived back at Robson Bight they and the A8s travelled west past CP and the entrance to Blackney Pass. The I27s were closest to CP and passed just before 2pm. The A8s were mid strait. Helena 08 Sep 2012 14:27:28 PDT |
Superb sounds!! The I15s sound like they have arrived at Critical Point/Robson Bight. A30s top end of Blackfish Sound. Helena 08 Sep 2012 12:11:30 PDT |
No calls but orcas nearby The A30s just went north through Blackney Pass silently. The I15s and the A8s are still in Johnstone Strait. Helena 08 Sep 2012 11:27:17 PDT |
Orcas hunting fish. The echolocation a short while ago was from the I15s, who are now possibly headed to the beaches for a rub. A30s are heading north through Blackney Pass. Helena 08 Sep 2012 11:00:36 PDT |
Orcas approaching Orcalab. The A30s are heading north into Blackney Pass. Helena 08 Sep 2012 10:46:40 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. We're hearing the A30s on CP, A5s on PI and I15s on CrPt. Looks lke the orcas are foraging off the entrance to Blackney Pass. Helena 08 Sep 2012 08:45:05 PDT |
Distant calls audible. We're hearing calls on the Critical Point hydrophone again, and think the A1s A5s & I15s have made it back into the Strait via Weynton passage, and are now headed east. Helena 08 Sep 2012 07:14:16 PDT |
Orcas near mics. There seems to be a fair amount of moving around by these groups. They are again in Blackfish Sound! A short while ago faint calls were heard. They are now louder. A1s (A30s), I15s and A5s (?A8s). Helena & Gigi 08 Sep 2012 03:12:18 PDT |
