No calls but orcas nearby

The whales have given us the slip. After the A30's and A8's travelled west up Blackney Pass into Blackfish this morning, individual reports suggest they travelled towards Donegal head. They have presently been seen in a spread out formation heading west before lizard point, although we do not have positive ID’s yet. This afternoon Biggs whales were seen at Izumi Rock. CP observed the transients travelling at a rapid pace while hugging the Vancouver Island shoreline heading west, past Kaikash and Blinkhorn until they disappeared. As the afternoon progressed, it came to light that one of the sub-groups in the entourage are the T10’s. Reports suggest they travelled through Pearce Passage into Cormorant Channel, where they were seen turning to an easterly direction, heading towards Weynton. It was suggested the T10’s split from the group, although these whales have not been seen for at least one and a half hours, so the group dynamics may have changed considerably since then. Additionally, seven hungry humpbacks were also seen lunge feeding at Bold Head. This has been a great day so far, let’s wait and see what happens next

No calls but orcas nearby

The A30's and the A8's were first seen from the CP Crew at 0748 along the VI shoreline where they were spyhopping, tail slapping, rolling, foraging and socialising. They were travelling west and then they angled over the strait towards the back of the Hanson shoreline where they committed to head up Blackney Pass and passed the lab.

Distant calls audible.

The A30s progressed "down" (east) the Strait to the eastern end of the Ecological Reserve. We can hear dolphins as well.

Distant calls audible.

Only one group but the A30s are making life interesting.. It seemed like they were going to make it through Blackney but they turned and went back to the north and now we are hearing distant calls in Johnstone Strait. Dis they make it by going Weynton Passage? We will soon find out when the calls get louder.
