We're hearing the A30s coming back from a brief trip to Kelsey Bay, where they were reported to be at around 6pm. They are now at the eastern end of the Ecological Reserve, heading west.

Distant calls audible. The A30s are moving east again past Critical Point - very indecisive! Helena 28 Aug 2012 13:00:06 PDT |
Orcas near mics. Now the A30s are moving back west at Critical Point - thanks again Marie! We can still hear i15s and A4s east of the Reserve. Helena 28 Aug 2012 12:43:06 PDT |
No calls but orcas nearby Sorry, I now have better info on the A30s thanks to Marie who is right there on the Cliff (thank goodness for the Warden programme). The A30s came east mid strait from CP after entering Johnstone Strait. When opposite the Cliff they angled to Cracroft Island at Swaine Point. At the time of the calls they were crossing the Strait, angling toward the beaches. A38 and A39 however were foraging off by themselves all over the place. Helena 28 Aug 2012 12:25:05 PDT |
Orcas near mics. The A30s are making their way back to the west. The I15s who were on the Rubbing Beaches a short while ago faded off. In the distance off the east end of the Reserve we could hear an occasional A4 call as well before the A30s made their presence known opposite the Bight. Helena 28 Aug 2012 11:54:37 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. So now we are hearing I15s in Johnstone Strait as well. Did they come in from Weynton Pass? Of the possible groups going "out" last night the A36s are the only group-so far- that we have not heard. There was a report of whales going into Nodales this morning and we wonder if this might be the A5s who we did not hear last night. Helena 28 Aug 2012 09:23:31 PDT |
Distant calls audible. I needed to add that there were A4s just behind the A34s. Everyone is headed east now. Helena 28 Aug 2012 09:14:16 PDT |
Orcas near mics. We just had a lovely pass from the A34s on the far side of Blackney Pass followed by the A30s on the Hanson Island side. They have moved into Johnstone Strait. Helena 28 Aug 2012 08:58:16 PDT |
Distant calls audible. Sounds like the A30s so far and they are getting closer. Helena 28 Aug 2012 07:39:41 PDT |
Distant calls audible. We just started hearing distant A1s on the Flower Island system. Helena 28 Aug 2012 07:36:12 PDT |
