| Distant calls audible. We're still hearing distant calls on the rubbing beaches hydrophone, and have heard from Marie at Boat Bay that orcas are swimming westwards bathed in moonlight! Helena 25 Aug 2012 22:40:14 PDT |
Distant calls audible. Not much of a return as yet. The A30s and I15s seem stalled off the east end of the Reserve for the time being. Helena 25 Aug 2012 21:41:11 PDT |
Distant calls audible. The A30s and the I15s are making their way back to the west. Since the last report (around noon) quite a bit has happened. Sorry for the delay. As the A5s continued to the east, the A30s and I15s made a turn for the west wich brought them as far west as Bauza Cove where they turned. This was between 4 and 4:30pm. Both groups then made steady progress back. Around 6:40pm they passed Boat Bay and Critical Point still heading eastward. Now the return. We will see if they bring back the A5s We are under the impression that the A8s were with the rest of their pod today. More on that later. We are still working out just what happened last night! Superb sounds!! A5s have now reached the rubbing beaches, A30s are in Robson Bight close to Critical Point, all eastbound. The I15s are there too. Helena 25 Aug 2012 12:26:42 PDT |
Boat noise The persistent boat noise we're hearing is from the Alaskan fishing fleet heading south at the end of their season. Nothing we can do about it. Will probably last for a few days. Paul & Helena 25 Aug 2012 12:04:08 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. Everyone is still trying to figure out who everyone is: they are all east of CP now spread out heading towards (if not there already) the Reserve. Helena 25 Aug 2012 11:20:13 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. We have dolphins all over Blackney Pass. They came in a tight bunch of 300 and crossed the very back of Parson Bay. When they eventually came out they were spread right across Blackney as they headed to Blackfish Sound. meanwhile faint orca calls continue. Helena 25 Aug 2012 10:17:39 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. We have had reports from CP that a group that was coming toward them began to cross over to the Vancouver Island shore. Meanwhile radio reports have other orcas, perhaps the A30s, heading east quickly on the vancouver Island side from Blinkhorn. Helena 25 Aug 2012 09:22:08 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. Busy Morning! Earlier we were listening to the A30s at the top end of blackfish Sound. This was followed by I15s arriving back off Robson Bight with A5 and A1 calls also happening in Johnstone Strait. The Cliff reports whales headed west under the Cliff. Multiple pod calls audible. This has been quite the night. We think the I15s curled back to Johnstone Strait via Weynton Passage after going through Blackney and Blackfish Sound earlier. We think they may have picked up new arrivals on the way. We are still waiting to see if the A30s and the A5s did likewise. The orcas have moved steadily closer to Robson Bight throughout the early morning. A boat passed them on the way and their calls are getting clearer once agin. OL 25 Aug 2012 03:02:45 PDT |
Superb sounds!! The A30s are now heading north in Blackney Pass. Helena 25 Aug 2012 00:11:50 PDT |
