| Superb sounds!! The I15s and the A36s and A12 are moving into Blackfish Sound. There a few whales still in Blackney Pass. Helena 13 Aug 2011 22:46:37 PDT |
Superb sounds!! They are in and it sounds like the A36s/A12 are still accompanying them. Helena 13 Aug 2011 22:12:29 PDT |
Superb sounds!! The I15s are in the entrance to Blackney Pass. It sounds like they might just make it in soon to Blackney. Helena 13 Aug 2011 22:02:45 PDT |
Superb sounds!! The I15s & Co are back off Robson Bight moving west. Helena 13 Aug 2011 20:50:27 PDT |
Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom. The I15s are rubbing. Helena 13 Aug 2011 20:01:49 PDT |
Distant calls audible. Some of the the I15s have moved along toward the east end of the Reserve. Helena 13 Aug 2011 19:43:14 PDT |
Orcas near mics. The I15s woke up and continued east toward Robson Bight. We think the A36s and A12 followed them. Helena 13 Aug 2011 18:14:27 PDT |
Orcas near mics. These last calls have mostly been from the A36 who are still off the entrance to Blackney Pas with A12 presumably. The I15s are in a resting line mid strait off of Big Bay slowly coming east. Helena 13 Aug 2011 16:40:10 PDT |
No calls but orcas nearby Well... the I15s changed their collective mind and turned backin Weynton Pass to Johnstone Strait. They are eastbound again. Meanwhile, the A36 and A12 have been patiently foraging/waiting off the eastern end of Hanson Island. Helena 13 Aug 2011 14:46:22 PDT |
No calls but orcas nearby Oops! The I15s have gone into Weynton Pass. They did this pretty much at the same time the A36s and A12 came into the Strait. The A36s and A12 are currently off the east end of Hanson Island - maybe they were surprised by the I15 departure as well - maybe the I15s will circle Hanson island too. Rings around hanson Island day! Helena 13 Aug 2011 13:58:06 PDT |
No calls but orcas nearby The A36s with A12 cleared from our view a while ago. They should be in johnstone Strait by now. The I15s cannot be too far away. The A4s and A5s are reported in Nodales channel. No word on the A30s. Lots of boat noise still and KC the humpback was off the Lab as the A36s/A12 went by. Another humpback blow was seen close to the Cracroft Island shore in Blackney Pass - too far away to ID. Helena 13 Aug 2011 13:50:46 PDT |
Orcas approaching Orcalab. The A36s & A12 are still in Blackfish Sound, getting closer to Blackney Pass, on the Swanson Island side of Blackfish. Meanwhile, the I15s have turned back to the east in Johnstone Strait. Helena 13 Aug 2011 13:05:50 PDT |
No calls but orcas nearby The A36s with A12 have passed through Weynton Pass & are now near the Plumpers in Blackfish Sound. They are pointing east, so may head our way. Meanwhile, the I15s are approaching Turn Point in western Johnstone Strait. Helena 13 Aug 2011 12:09:06 PDT |
Distant calls audible. CP (Leah and Bianca) reports that the I15s just passed them and the entrance to Blackney Pass. They were travelling both shores. I43 was on their side and his group is passing Big Bay, still off hanson Island. They are moving toward A12 and the A36s who are off the entrance to Weynton Pass. No word about the A4s and A5s (?still east) or the A30s (headed into Blackfish earlier). Lots of whales and few calls. Helena 13 Aug 2011 11:38:06 PDT |
Orcas near mics. Close I15 calls on Critical Point. Helena 13 Aug 2011 09:49:14 PDT |
Orcas hunting fish. The A36s and A12 did not come into Blackney Pass but carried on up the Hanson Island shore. This would account for the report of whales to the west of CP. Just now, other groups are coming up to Critical Point from the east. Helena 13 Aug 2011 09:45:32 PDT |
Boat noise Amidst horrendous boat noise, the A30s headed north through Blackney Pass about an hour ago. The tide was ebbing swiftly, A38 was in front with the A50s, Tsitika was on her own behind them, the A54s were next, then A39 brought up the rear, on his own. Just now, we're waiting for A12 & the A36 brothers to follow them. Other orcas have also been reported in western Johnstone Strait, not sure who at this point. Helena 13 Aug 2011 09:04:22 PDT |
Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom. The I15s, the A4 group (the A24s? and the A1s (A30s) who had been in Robson Bight began to approach the Main rubbing beach around 3am. They have been taking turns going in. One I15 individual just about took our ears off! It is still a busy night for boats so there has been constant background noise. We have been curious to see if the A5s and the A11s would return from the east to join these groups. So far we don't think they have. Helena 13 Aug 2011 04:02:31 PDT |
Multiple pod calls audible. Through Blackney and on down east toward Robson Bight, the A1,A4, and I15 are having quite the time. Helena 13 Aug 2011 02:11:26 PDT |
