interesting times in Johnstone Strait. The transients who had come through Blackney Pass earlier today took their time travelling east in Johnstone Strait, first to the Sophia Islands and then crossing to Robson Bight where they spent a great deal of time. Just a short while ago, with the resident whales not too far away and sleepily travelling east to izumi Rock, the transients headed west into a crowd of dolphins on the bow of one of the whale watch boats. They charged after the dolphins who did an abrupt 90 degree turn and fled. It is not clear if they got anyone. They are going east again around the western boundary of the Ecological Reserve. The A23s and A24s are fairly stationary, still near izumi Rock (to the west of the western boundary).

We've been hearing occasional distant calls from the A23s & A24s as they head west in Johnstone Strait, traveling close to Vancouver Island, now approaching Blinkhorn.

Superb sounds!!

Wonderful calls from the A24s in Robson Bight, after they make their way back to the west after a good rub.

Perhaps a meeting of friends and relations. The A36s and A12 are westbound from Naka and the A23s and A24s seem to have finished at the Beaches.

Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom.

Yea, neither grey skies nor transients can deter these guys from rubbing! A36s and A12 are back in the Strait (see Jack's note( heading east from the Eve River.

We just had an interesting encounter with a group of transients who went south in Blackney Pass after coming through Blackfish Sound. We are still worrking on the IDs. meanwhile, the resident whales were not far away near Kaikash Creek heading east tight to the Vancouver Island shore. Except for the boat noise everyone is pretty quiet.

CP has seen the whales off the Sophia Islands. The A23s and A24s have been coming west since earlier this morning (they gave us the night off). Boat Bay saw them at 7:30am. There were dolphins through the night.
