Orcas near mics.

The A23s and the A24s are near the Bight. There is a fishing opening so some boat noise too.

No calls but orcas nearby

Tonight we were celebrating Momoko's birthday and Elizabeth's and Mercedes' last night here and how fitting the whales came into Blackney Pass even if only briefly. Lots of spyhops (22 by one count) and rolling around they floated back to Johnstone Strait. Hard to tell who was all there as they were distant. When they got back to the Strait we heard A4 calls mixed with a little A5. CP saw the whales (the A24s) almost mid strait off the entrance to Blackney Pass starting to turn eastward. A large tug heading that way also is responsible for the loud boat noise.

The A23s and the A24s passed CP and were opposite the entrance to Blackney Pass just before 8pm. They carried on to the west toward Big Bay.

The A23s and the A24s have crossed over to the Cracroft Island side and are going past the Cliff at the moment headed to CP. They are repeating themselves! Thanks to the Lukwa and CP for the reports.

Very sleepy whales headed very slowly back to the Ecological Reserve - been here before! Anyway after the charge to the west, at the turn, the whales really slowed down. They are close to Vancouver Island shore.

The orcas just passed the entrance to Blackney and are heading west up the strait. Freckles the humpback has also been spotted in front of CP!

A few A4 calls as the A24s and the A23s continue east toward the Ecological Reserve on the Vancouver Island side. We are not sure what haened to the A36s and A12 after they came west to the Robson Bight area and carried on a bit longer.

This has been quite nice as the A4s and A5s have come back from the east and foraged off Robson Bight, sometimes close, sometimes sounding more distant. We have yet another boat coming as well.

Orcas hunting fish.

Now echolocation on the Critical Point hydrophone. Probably, he orcas are heading west, having a bite in the Bight.
