The whales pulled off the Beaches just before 9pm and moved on eastward. at times their calls seemed to get clearer and we wondered if they were crossing but the calls eventually faded off leaving us to think they have gone east for now. For a long time they seemed stalled and the flood tide won't be for another 2 hours. Troy phoned tonight to say a group (maybe the A30s) turned at Bere Point around 6pm and started to go east. We have not heard anyone as yet.

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. We're hearing distant calls on the Critical Point hydrophone again. Possibly, some of the orcas are heading back to the west, and may be crossing over to the Cracroft Island side of the Strait. Helena 16 Aug 2011 21:34:44 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Orcas rubbing on the shore bottom. Close calls and rubbing at the Main rubbing beach. Helena 16 Aug 2011 19:38:56 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Orcas near mics. Obviously, some of the whales are in closer to Robson Bight. There are other further off as well - all lovely tonight! Helena 16 Aug 2011 18:27:31 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. Sorry the whales turned back to the west at 2:10pm and then back to the east at 3:34 when they were spread out from west of Big Bay to the entrance of Blackney Pass. Hearing I15, A4 and A5 calls. Helena 16 Aug 2011 16:36:06 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Orcas near mics. The last close calls were from the A8s who had crossed from Cracroft island over to the Bight and then turned east to Critical Point (Marie's report). A56 and her little one went west past the Cliff and joined the others including her Mum A11 and A28. All these whales have formed a big social line mid strait off of the Sophia Islands. They are also east bound. Whales are also reported off Lizard point and this may turn out to be the A30s who were suspected of going out via Weynton Pass earlier this morning. A little bit of fog has burned off with the hot sun. Helena 16 Aug 2011 13:32:28 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. Here is good news! A28 (from the A8s) and A11 swam together under the Cliff heading west. The A8s have been east for a while now and when they went east A11 probably was the whale seen swimming next to A28 at that time. Hindsight makes this all perfect! There are still distant calls but generally the whales are a lot quieter at the moment. Helena 16 Aug 2011 12:57:00 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. CP (Bianca and Selina) tell u that the whales have turned back to the east. They turned into Vancouver Island and are spread out in various groups from Blinkhorn to Little Kaikash. The whales are even in mixed groups. A24 went west earlier with some of the I15s and now A52 is also traveling with some of the I15s. A nice summer day! Helena 16 Aug 2011 11:36:05 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. Almost entirely forgot about the A36s and A12 who are reported via marie to be off Kelsey Bay - are they looking for the A8s Helena 16 Aug 2011 11:15:00 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. We are hearing the I15s coming west toward CP now. Helena 16 Aug 2011 10:07:02 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Multiple pod calls audible. Feels like the A30s have led everyone westward this morning. An A4 (the A35s/73) group has followed past CP and beyond the entrance to Blackney. And just now an A5 (A23s/85?) group past CP . Marie reports that other groups are coming west toward the CP area. Helena 16 Aug 2011 09:27:07 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Distant calls audible. CP reports that there is a group heading westspread out along the Vancouver Island shore from Izumi to Little Kaikash. As this happens we are hearing the A30s in the Strait. Helena 16 Aug 2011 08:13:33 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Orcas hunting fish. Sounds like the A30s are in Robson Bight, having a morning bite! Meanwhile, we think the other groups have faded off to the east. Helena 16 Aug 2011 06:55:48 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Superb sounds!! Ok so now the A35s/A73 have pulled the A30s away from Blackfish Sound. This A4 group is heading to Johnstone Strait with the A30s following. This means, everyone will be in the Strait if they keep going. Helena 16 Aug 2011 02:38:17 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Superb sounds!! The I15s are at the Rubbing Beaches (the A36s/A12/ are in the distance) and the A35s /A73 are back in Blackney Pass (from Blackfish Sound). The A30s are still in Blackfish and the A23s and A24s are in the Strait. Helena 16 Aug 2011 02:19:28 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Multiple pod calls audible. So we think this is where everyone is at the moment: The A30s joined by the A35s and A73 are in Blackfish Sound. The A23s are in Johnstone Strait getting closer to Robson Bight with the I15s,A36s,A12 and the A24s (who were in the Strait to begin with). Helena 16 Aug 2011 01:56:46 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Multiple pod calls audible. We have been keeping track of the various groups, especially ,the A30s who did not go with the others but elected to stay in Blackfish Sound. Then just before the slack to flood we noticed that another group was headed back toward the A30s. This turned out to be some of the A4s and the A23s. And there it stands for the moment. Helena 16 Aug 2011 01:50:09 PDT |

![]() | ![]() Multiple pod calls audible. The various groups, led by the I15s are passing through Blackney Pass in lovely moonlight over a calm ocean. The A30s are still in Blackfish, and the A24s are in the Strait. What a night! Helena 16 Aug 2011 01:45:07 PDT |
