Multiple pod calls audible.
Whew what a day! In the end (is it the end?) it sounds like the I15s and the A5s went out Weynton just as A46 and A37 (how great was that to see the brothers?) went through Blackney Pass. Everyone met up off the top end of Blackfish Sound. The tide is in ebb for the next while but will be flooding before midnight. The second group of Biggs continued east just as the T46Bs did earlier. Surprise, surprise ! We are listening to A36 calls in Johnstone Strait! We had heard that two males were heading west, coming up from the east, while the I15s and A5s were busy at the beaches and then westbound themselves. Just as the Biggs whales, who had been in Blackney Pass this evening were rounding the CP corner, a lone male was seen heading west opposite Little Kaikash. The calls are now however on Parson Island so what might be happening? No more word on the I15s and A5s. The biggs carried on to the east. The earlier morning Biggs turned out to be the T46Bs. Jared left them off the Broken Islands later. Helena 26 Jul 2014 21:12:56 PDT |

No calls but orcas nearby
As the residents passed in front of CP the Biggs whales (maybe seven in all with two males) came out of Parson Bay and headed south along Parson Island. They have now cleared our view. The I15s and A5s re now west of CP still moving west so the transients should have a clear entry into Jhnstone StrAIT. Helena 26 Jul 2014 20:09:05 PDT |

Yea the A23s and A25s have joined their pod mates the A42s and have travelled into the Bight. The I15s are spread out and following their lead. Good Day! Helena 26 Jul 2014 15:42:42 PDT |

Superb sounds!!
The whales to the west turned and headed east, travelled along the Vancouver Island shore. Really nice A5 calls right now. We heard a rumour that the A23s/25s came in via Weynton Pass. Nice idea! Helena 26 Jul 2014 14:47:51 PDT |

Distant calls audible.
There is a lot of activity to the west. We think the I15s and the A5s (A42s) went toward the entrance of Weynton Pass. We just started hearing their calls. We are waiting to confirm a report of a new group in from Weynton. Meanwhile, the Cliff had a small group (? the Biggs from earlier in Blackney Pass) head east past them about 30 minutes ago. Sorry for the break in audio streaming but it should be back up and running now and if not please let us know! Kate 26 Jul 2014 11:51:16 PDT |

We believe we just had a group of Biggs whales off West Pass in Blackfish Sound hunting, chasing Dalls Porpoise. Fairly dramatic, there was a lot of breaching, fleeing porpoise, splashing that we could just make out in the mist on the far side. Just a brief vocalization and now we have lost them in the fog bank flowing in from Blackfish. OL Crew 26 Jul 2014 10:23:35 PDT |

The calls sound distant in the boat noise but we believe the I15s and the A5s (A42s) are heading east toward Robson Bight. Another large cruise ship is on its way west toward Blackney Pass. The whales cleared Blackney Pass about 2:20am. Helena 26 Jul 2014 03:20:44 PDT |

A bit hard to hear through the persistent boat noise but the whales became vocal again in Blackfish Sound around 1am. They are now travelling south in Blackney Pass on another attempt to get to johnstone Strait. Earlier this evening many of you may have seen the A42s and some of the I15s attempt to move through Blackney Pass against the tide between 7 and 9pm. After only getting about half way they gave up and allowed themselves to be carried back to Blackfish Sound. It was a very, very lovely encounter. Helena 26 Jul 2014 02:25:34 PDT |
