No calls but orcas nearby

What an incredible day!! We welcomed Luke,Ben & Amelie to Orcalab. Ellie was happy to see company and more people to help out after being charge of the Lab pretty much by herself for nearly 3 weeks. Not long after everyone arrived after spending the night in Alert Bay word came that the A30s and the A23s and A25s were on their way in. Finally, this afternoon we began to hear the familiar calls of the A23s and A25s and the A30s. But there was a surprise of A4 calls as well. Yea!! We spent the next few hours tracking the orcas through Blackney Pass and into Johnstone Strait. Just past Kaikash Creek, Warden Erin told us some went in for a rub. The A30s peeled away and came back to the entrance to Blackney Pass as the others, the A23s, A25s and A4s went in for a rub at the Main beach. It was an amazing rub. Thank goodness Mike Durban fixed the underwater camera in time! We got to see Springer and her two babies above and below water. A109, with the terrible injury, also passed in front of the underwater camera. The groups continued east after the rub while the A30s eventually moved into Blackney and headed north to Blackfish Sound. They probably have not yet gone far. What a Canada Day! What an introduction to OrcaLab!

No calls but orcas nearby

Just so you are ready! We had word around 12pm that the A23s/A25s and possibly the A30s were in Queen Charlotte Strait. They are still there off Lizard Point. Not making a lot of headway but generally moving eastward. Keep your fingers crossed they make it all the way down here.
