A73 Springer and A54 Blinkhorn with a new calf, A30 is presumed dead

No calls but orcas nearby

There is one other piece of good news: A54, Cedar has had a baby as well. Kate got a picture of them together just before dark the day before yesterday. The Biggs have moved on to Blackfish Sound. The T137s +.

No orcas present.

A special note: We got word from John Ford and Graeme Ellis that Springer was seen July 4th on the central coast and that she has a baby!. It has been eleven years since her release back to her home waters. Her story continues. Yesterday, we were incredibly sad at the realisation that Tsitika (A30) is gone. For us, it was the very deep sadness of losing an old friend. Today, the future looks bright once again. Everyone here is beside themselves.

Distant calls audible.

There is a group of Biggs whales in Johnstone Strait who came west out of the Reserve and along the Vancouver Island shore. They crossed to the Cracroft Island side and for a while looked like they might come into Blackney Pass. We are still waiting.
