Distant calls audible.

What a way to end the day! The A23s, A25s, A30s and I4s spent the majority of the afternoon down at the Rubbing Beaches and Critical Point, where they were very vocal and excited! The finally decided to start making their way towards Blackney Pass around 8:25PM when they went by Cracroft Point and continued into the pass. We had the first group enter the gap at 8:46PM. There were three smalls fins and one male, I76, trailing behind. The second group was spotted in the gap at 9:12PM with a sprouter and 3 smaller fins. Finally, we had a third, bigger group enter the gap at 9:19PM with 6 individuals, including one male. We believe the third group was the A23s with A60. All groups had cleared Blackney Pass by 9:33PM. They are now vocal in Blackfish Sound!

No orcas present.

Yesterday evening, we continued hearing faint calls on our Rubbing Beach hydrophone until 10:14pm. Then at 2:25am, we heard them again on Rubbing Beach. As the Orcas moved to the west, we picked up their calls at 3:03am from Robson Bight. These calls were from the A30s, A5s and I15 groups. It seems that they turned back to the east, as we started hearing them on Rubbing Beach at 6:30am. The last calls we heard were at 6:31am. At 9:15am, we got a report of Orcas between Naka Creek and Adams River, going west. At 10:15am, the A23/25s and possibly I4s turned back to the east and by 10:30am they were to the east of Naka Creek. At 12:28pm, the A30s were reported off Forward Bay, heading west. We’re trying to find them on our Rubbing Beach cam!
