We just had a really amazing encounter with the A30's. They past the lab within 20 meters. Lots of socializing and tail slapping. They are now entering Johnstone Strait and we have some great vocals coming from Parsons Island hydrophone! What an afternoon. Distant calls audible. No sign of the A23/25's after the A30's in Blackney pass, perhaps they went west in Johnston Strai? We just had the A30's come through Blackney Pass heading north into Blackfish sound. Some great sounds as they came through, our live camera followed them through the pass as well. All 3 resident groups are still foraging very spread out in the Johnstone Strait. Continuous calls coming from both CP and Critical point hydrophones. The A23/25/30's have turned around and are now Westing at Blinkhorn. Very spread out, mostly on the Vancouver Island side with 1 Male on the Hanson Island side. We are hearing calls on the Critical point hydrophone at the moment. Meanwhile the Bigg's T90's & T100B's are still easting further down Johnston Strait. We've also had a report of 4 orcas at Bold Head, which is near the range of our Flower Island hydrophone - so keep listening and watching, this could get interesting!
