No orcas present.

September 1 2020: Humpback, sea lions, no orcas Today was a quiet one. When the sun rose, it was hidden by a thick fog that lingered all day long. We couldn’t see past half a kilometer. We could, however, hear the blows of a humpback and of sea lions in Blackney Pass. There were no calls or reports today, all we heard was a humpback calling near Flower Island at 7:42am. Megan prepared the Strider Rubbing beach hydrophone that she and Paul will start, as phase 1, to install tomorrow. We’re very excited to soon be able to both listen to the whales and see them above and below water; and we can’t wait to share it with you! Hopefully, tomorrow will let us know where the orcas are and bring less fog and rain!
