No calls but orcas nearby

The I15s and the A5s went north through Blackney Pass after having to navigate their way through the entrance against the still flooding tide. Despite the evening's fading light we could see them pretty much altogether steadily making their way. At 7:40pm Kate Brauer reported that a G clan group passed her at Bere Point heading east. And Jake Etzkorn reported at 7:54pm that the A30s were back in Johnstone Strait slowly heading west at Chatham Point. Mario had reported that the A30s were off Brown's Bay in Discovery Passage around 3pm. While all this resident activity was happening a large group of transients came out of Queen Charlotte Strait and into Weynon Passage (6pm) and as the residents were struggling to make head way into Blackney the Bigg's travelled east past the entrance to Blackney, past CP on the Vancouver Island side and then some past Boat Bay camp around .8:15pm. This has been a day with a lot of orcas! The humpbacks were just as wonderful too.

The I15s have been vocal just a little bit as the groups, including the A5s (at least the A42s) continue west into the afternoon glare. Meanwhile, Jared Towers picked up on a report from Kate Brauer about a large group of Bigg's orcas heading east from Bere Point around 3pm. He followed them to the Stephenson Islands where they continued to move east. Interesting day with transients (the T10s) this morning in the Strait at the same time as the residents and now the same this afternoon with a much large diverse group.

We are hearing Echo locations and A5 calls on Critical Point hydrophone. Sounds like the whales are coming back from east to the Bight.

Superb sounds!!

The I15s were westbound earlier from the Boat Bay area around 8pm. But since then the A5s have come up towards the Bight and the I15s seem to have turned back towards them. Lovely close vocal with lots of exchanges going on.

Sorry for the late update. This morning, around 09:30 the A34s have cleared from our view. The G clan group (I35s?) didn't come into Blackney, seems like continued to the west. The I15s and A42s, who were in Blackfish took Weynton Pass to enter the Strait. They are quiet this moment. The A30s were seen off Quadra Island.
