No calls but orcas nearby Today a lazy day for humpbacks in Blackney Pass, content to move back and forth on the far side. Not so the Dalls porpoise who Stephanie and Megan report came in close to Hanson Is. Meanwhile Jackie reported the T2Cs were westbound off Blinkhorn in Johnstone Strait. No orcas present. Nice one! We have extra eyes on the water now and Megan and Stephanie reported that Guardian was in the Pass repeatedly doing breaches a short while ago. No orcas present. Just after getting back to Hanson Island yesterday a small group of Dall's porpoise went by followed shortly after by two humpbacks and a sea lion. Nice to be back at ocean level! No calls but orcas nearby The T55s went past Alert Bay heading west just before 7pm. They were very close to shore even going into the kelp.T55A was draped in kelp as he swam parallel to the shore. They caused great excitement as people in town lined the shore to watch their passing. At noon today they were reported in Double Bay. They have got around! Helena 26 May 2015 21:06:25 PDT No calls but orcas nearby Got a heads up from Mike Durban who heard on traffic that there were orcas (and humpback) off Blackney Pass. We were able to locate them briefly on the remote camera. A ton of eagles, birds very intent on something. The orcas were just on the side of this activity. No orcas present. Mark and Jes have been seeing humpbacks just about everyday. They mostly have seen KC but others are around as well. The Tuan spotted two in Blackfish the other day.
