No orcas present.

The A5s crossed Johnstone Strait and exited through Weynton Pass around 10am. We did not hear them arrive on the "other side" in Blackfish Sound.

Distant calls audible.

It seems that the A5s (all) came west this morning and just a short while ago turned back east off Blinkhorn (east of Telegraph Cove). Thanks to jared and Christie for this early morning update!

Distant calls audible.

Sounds like at least some of the whales are returning from their travels to the east, we've heard a few Gclan 'pings' on the rubbing beach system.

Multiple pod calls audible.

There are now G clan calls with the A5s! And they are back off the entrance to Blackney Pass. Did the A8s go and get the whales Leah and Angela saw off of Port Hardy yesterday? If so this might just be the rest of the A5s and the I11s as well as the A8s. Let's hope so!

The small group of orcas (we heard A5 calls earlier) just made a large arc and moved from the Vancouver Island side over to Hanson Island. They have just cleared Johnstone Strait headed into Weynton Passage.

Angela and I saw 4 males, 2 females and a juvenile including A60 and I64 yesterday off Hardy Bay yesterday. They were heading to the east around 11am. Perhaps they made it into the Strait?!?

Harry Alfred reported seeing two orca, 1 male & 1 female, by Midsummer island this afternoon. Otherwise, it's been a pretty quiet start to February, cetacean wise, around here.
