Seems as if all the I31s have not gone away. We are hearing calls again off the entrance to Blackney Pass.

Orcas near mics.

We're hearing 'pings' on the Critical Point hydrophone, sounds like the I31s are coming back from their trip to the east.

No calls but orcas nearby

You never know what you might see if you look. Having a coffee this morning in Alert Bay, in the middle of a conversation about the day ahead, we spotted orca blows east of Pearse Passage. After a few changes in direction the 4-5 orcas crossed over closer to Vancouver Island in the genera direction of Telegraph Cove. Beautiful back lite blows are making it possible to follow their movements with and without a scope. Maybe they will oblige and visit Marie at the Lab later.

6-7 orca (2 males) quietly headed north in Blackney Pass just after 1pm. Spotted them at the last minute so unfortunately we hard no time to get them on the cameras.

A humpback named Batik restfully traveled, 20ft off the Lab, to the south around at 1337 this afternoon. Helena then spotted her/him traveling to the east in Johnstone Strait around 1430. Nice to have such calm waters for photo identification and system maintenance today!

The Biggs turned around after looking like they were headed to johnstone Strait and went up Baronet Passage instead. Beautiful winter's day, sun shining, wind blowing, snow on the mountains.

No calls but orcas nearby

It turns out that the orca from yesterday were the T050s. They headed south in Blackney Pass and then east in Johnstone Strait. They were last seen in JS traveling very fast back to the west around 2pm. They were quiet the whole time.
