Marie reported to us that the mother/baby humpback she saw earlier below the Cliff heading west was Chunky (a very familiar whale) with her new baby and it was the first time seen this year!!!!! such lovely news. The A36s have gone quiet going east most likely, lots of boat noise, hot and sunny, the Bigg's whales carried on to the west, we have not had an update on either orca group.

While we are waiting to re-establish the streaming (Thanks Jess) here is an update on the A36s. Yesterday evening they came in via Blackney Pass around 6pm. We first heard them in Blackfish Sound. It was blowing northwest. We did not see or hear A12. They continued into Johnstone Strait and slowly made their way east eventually passing Critical Point and Robson Bight. Briefly we heard them on the Rubbng beach system but were unsure if they actually went in for a rub. This morning they were off CriticalPoint again. After foraging in the Bight they made their way towards Cracroft Point and then turned back towards the Bight. They have called only occasionally this afternoon. We got a report this morning from Angela that there were in coming orcas off Scarlett Point around 7:45am. Summer is heating up!

It has been very quiet on the orca front, but there have been a number of humpbacks traveling and foraging in Blackney Pass over the past couple of days. Springer did not make an appearance for her 10th year reunion this weekend in Telegraph Cove, but the events were a success. A big thank you to everyone involved in the organizing committee! Be sure to watch the National News on CBC, at 6pm today for a news piece celebrating Springer. Thanks Alan Waterman!

Marie at the Cliff is fairly certain that the A1 group is the A34s. They were very distant, but the number and composition of orcas fit. They continued to the west at a fast pace and were last seen at CP around 6pm. 100+ dolphins passed the Lab to the south around the same time.
