Multiple pod calls audible.

We're hearing distant calls from the A30s, I15s, A31s, and A5s on the Critical Point hydrophone... sounds like at least some of the A5s have joined the party!

Distant calls audible.

We're still hearing distant calls from the A30s on the Flower Island hydrophone, and have just heard from the Maple Leaf that the A36s with A12 and other orcas are eastbound at Lizard Point. Meanwhile, the I15s have met up with the I31s & they are all westbound, crossing the Strait towards CP. Sounds like this day is far from over!

Multiple pod calls audible.

We just had a very interesting exchange of orca. The I15s, some close to our side, came in in small groups. They did not move through very quickly. The first group was surrounded first, by Dalls porpoise, and then dolphins. These groups moved closer to gether half way through the Pass. While they were doing this the A30s came in altogether from Johnstone Strait and headed in the opposite direction (north in Blackney. They are now in Blackfish Sound. Both groups are now vocal. Meanwhile the I31s are westbound from Robson Bight.

The groups that headed through Weynton Pass have not gone away. They are off Bold Head spread ouyt. We can hear faint calls and whistles! Also, there is a report of whales westbound from Naka Creek. This might be the I31s (now identified). The A30s are in the Strait in between.

While the A30s continue to chat off CP in Johnstone Strait, the other groups, the I15s, A34s,A36s and A12 move closer to Donegal Head.

A point of clarification is needed: The Cliff earlier reported I11s passing them at 9am but have since revised this to the A30s who then went west to CP (10 am) and continued after the A34s,I15s and A36s/A12 groups. Now, all these groups are spread out from Beaver Cove to the Stephensons across the entrance to Weynton Pass (Lukwa report). Also, AJ found our missing I11/31 group heading east off the Eve River at 10:20AM. THIS EXPLAINS WHY WE HEARD THEM AT THE EAST END OF THE RESERVE ABOUT THE TIME THE A30S MUST HAVE TURNED BACK TO THE WEST.

Distant calls audible.

Several groups are heading west from CP. In the fog, there is a group over by Blinkhorn and they are hearing A1 calls so perhaps the A12s/A36s? The Lukwa reports some of the I15s are by Big Bay and yet another group is off CP. The fog is clearing, the sun is winning.

So much more to report! Boat Bay camp (opposite Robson Bight) reprts that the I15s went past them at 6:45am headed west. And just now, the Cliff (Marie) reports that another group (perhaps I11s) went west under the Cliff. Getting dizzy yet?

A lot of movement: The most current is that CP reported hearing whales passing them to the west at 8am. The fog is very thick this morning and they cannot see anything. Just afterwards we heard distant I15 calls on CP so perhaps this was the I15s (anyone else?) going west as the A30s and the I11/I31 group continued east. The I11/I31 group were ahead of the A30s, just as they were going into Johnstone Strait via Blackney Pass before 6am, and recently were heard passing the Main rubbing beaches as the A30s were following past Critical Point (Robson Bight).

Seems like the whales are shifting back towards the Bight area. The A34s never really left but now they have company.

The whales are still shifting around. Not in too big of a hurry. The A36s slipped ddown toward the east end with the I15s aand perhaps an I31 ggroup too. That left the A34s still this side of Robson Bight. Their calls have become fainter.

The A34s and the A36s found each not too far from the Robson Bight area. Unfortunately, there is too much boat noise.

These latest calls are from the A36s. At one point they were closer to Robson Bight but now their calls are quite distant and in frequent.

Distant calls audible.

The A30s disappeared a while ago, perhaps following the G1s out to Queen Charlotte Strait. We have not heard them come round to Johnstone Strait. However, there is a lot of activity in the Strait (besides the boats!). An I31 group along with I15s became vocal soo after hearing the A12s and the A36s come up the Strait from Robson Bight about 9:45pm. For the last while these groups have been off the entrance to Blackney Pass shifting around.

Multiple pod calls audible.

The A30s are heading north into Blackfish Sound, where they'll probably meet up with the G1s we were hearing earlier - there are distant calls from them now, so theyre nor far away. Meanwhile, the A36s & A12s (all of them) are heading west in the Strait, and a G-I group is heading east in the Strait, having come in via Weynton Pass. Sounds like they'll also meet up. Busy (& exciting) night ahead!

A large group of orcas is coming "off" Donegal Head. Some are already headed through Weynton Pass. We are hearing G1 calls so far.

No orcas present.

This morning has been interesting. A group of 4 orcas were found this morning near Telegraph Cove. They were later identified as the I35s who are part of the I31s. They were totally silent. We did not hear them arrive but they were possibly the group who the Maple Leaf saw heading east off Lizard Point yesterday. They have gone back out to Queen Charlotte Strait and Lizard Point via Weynton Passage. meanwhile, the A12s and the A36s are heading west off Camp Point (east JS). No positive word on the A30s yet. There is a large group that has been heading east from the Port Hardy area.

No orcas present.

After yesterday's excitiment today was a bit anti-climatic but in a relaxing, catch your breath sort of way. Humpbacks, a minke and dolphins took centre stage while reports circulated about the other whales at a distance from this area. The A36s and A12s were very far to the east today. The Naiad Explorer found the A30s this morning and followed them past the Adam River. The A30s kept going east and were off Windy Point at 1pm. A large group was seen off Nahwitti Bar (western tip of Vancouver Island) - perhaps some of yesterday's residents? The ailboat the Maple Leaf, in the area for a rare August/September visit found some of the I11s off Lizard Point in Queen Charlotte Strait (not too far away) in the late afternoon. They were going east but so far have not materialized down in this direction. And some of yesterday's big transient crowd (the T10s) who went west past Alert Bay yesterday evening were off Bates Pass at 4pm. So that is it for now. We will see what the night brings.

No orcas present.

We've heard no calls since early this morning, when the A30s headed east from the rubbing beaches. Since then, they have continued to the east. They were sighted heading past Adam River about 2 hours ago, still eastbound (Naiad Explorer report). Meanwhile, it seems that the A12s & A36s, who have been in Nodales Channel for over a day, are heading back to the west. It seem possible that we will hear them all returning sometime tonight. We are waiting.

After a brief rub, the A30s have left the rubbing beaches. We don't know if they are continuing to the east, or heading back to the west. We are now hearing mostly boat noise, though there are still faint calls on the rubbing beach hydrophone.
